What is a maintenance and operations levy and what does it provide?
Maintenance and operations levies provide funding for basic education services and day-to-day operating expenses that are not fully paid for by the state such as:

  • Elementary specialists (music, art, physical education, intervention specialists, etc.)
  • Instructional materials
  • Support for students at risk
  • Remedial instruction
  • Furniture and equipment for classrooms
  • Athletics and activities
  • Additional transportation costs
  • Technology
  • Utilities
  • Maintenance and repair of existing facilities.


Is this an additional levy or a replacement levy?
This is a replacement levy and will replace the current levy which expires December 31, 2008.

When would the tax be collected?
Levy dollars would be collected in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Do you qualify for levy exemptions?
Senior and disabled citizens may be eligible for an exemption from all or part of special levies. Call the Mason County Assessor’s Office at 427-9670, ext. 499, for applications and additional information.
