Levy Facts

  • The projected levy rates for 2009-2011 would be less than the current levy rate.
  • The current levy expires December 31, 2008.
  • The new levy would not impose a new tax in addition to what is currently in place, but will replace (at a lower rate) the expired tax.
  • The new levy would be a 3-year levy.
  • Shelton School District would receive matching money from the state and other districts (non-high districts that send their students to the Shelton School District) only if the levy passes.
  • The Maintenance and Operations Levy provides about 13.5% of the district’s budget. These dollars maintain all or a part of many educational programs and services in addition to the maintenance of facilities.
  • The levy amount to be collected is as follows:
    • 2009 - $5,700,000 ($3.37 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
    • 2010 - $5,900,000 ($3.37 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
    • 2011 - $6,100,000 ($3.37 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
    • The current rate (2008 collection) per $1,000 assessed valuation is $3.89.
