SGTMAJ Hernandez (NSI)

  Sergeant Major Daniel G. Hernandez was born in Glendale, California. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps on the 23rd of December, 1968. 

  After completing Recruit Training and his formal schooling as a Communicator, he was assigned to the 26th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Republic of South Vietnam. After completing his tour of duty he was assigned to Security Battalion Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. There he served as a correctional faculty staff where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. 

  In 1972 he received order to Marine Barrack Treasure Island where he served as a section leader in the Brig. 

  He then received orders to Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in 1976. Upon completion of training he was assigned to 1st Recruit training battalion, Company 'A' as a drill instructor. After completing one cycle of training he was assigned the billet of Senior Drill Instructor and was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant. 

  In march of 1979 he received orders to Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Senior Watch standard for correctional custody for a year. 

  Once again ordered to Security battalion Camp Pendleton in 1980 he served as Duty Warden until 1982, where he volunteered and was sent back to Marine Corps Recruit Depot for Drill Instructor Duty. 

  Assigned to Lima Company 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, he was placed into a Senior Drill Instructor billet. He was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, and served for two cycles and was then selected to be an Instructor at Drill Instructor School. 

  In 1984 he was selected to serve at Marine Barracks Washington D.C. where he served as a course developer. After being selected as 1st Sergeant in 1989 he was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, where he served as company 1st Sergeant until 1983 where he was again ordered to MCRD San Diego for duty as Company 'M' 1st Sergeant 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. 

  Upon selection to Sergeant Major in 1993 he was assigned to Station operations and maintenance squadron Marine Corps Air Station Hawaii. 

  Upon the base's realignment from Marine Air Station to Marine Corps Base Hawaii, He was assigned as Headquarters and Service Battalion Marine Corps Base Hawaii. 

  Requesting orders to be reassigned to 3rd Marine Regiment he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment where he served as a Battalion Sergeant Major until 1995. The same year he received orders to become the Sergeant Major for Recruiting Station Seattle, Washington where he served until 1998 when once again he was ordered to San Diego Recruit Depot where he retired to the former Violetta M. P. He now has two sons. 

  Since his retirement, he has taken the responsibility of being the Naval Science Instructor in the NJROTC program starting at Shelton High School. When 9th grade moved down to Oakland Bay Junior High, SGTMAJ Hernandez followed with it. He continues to teach and help cadets grow in this position.
