Website Editing Homepage
Located here are directions for editing SSD websites. This website is running on Sharepoint Foundations 2016 and almost all pages are comprised of either Wiki pages or Publishing pages. If you don't see the edit icon in the top menu bar it is because you probably do not have the correct permissions that can edit that particular page. Basic editing directions of pages can be found on this page.
Font Family and Size Selection
Even though you are provided with text format options such as font family and size of font, they should be used sparingly for when you want to emphasize a section of text. A website that uses the same font throughout the site is easier to read and more professional looking. Another thing to keep in mind when creating webpages is that not everyone has the same size screen. The website has been designed to intentionally look different on different screen sizes to provide the best user interface for everyone. Below are screenshots of the homepage on a phone, a tablet, and a desktop computer.
To position your text and graphics on the page there are different styles of text layouts that you can use. Although limited in selection you should be able to find a match for the way you want your page to look. One that I use commonly is the two columns layout. This will be two columns on desktops and tablets, but will stack to one column when viewing on a phone. Using this option you can put graphics, photos or some other option on the right side of your page and then put your content in the left side of the page.
Each individual site has its own navigation structure and can be edited to change the text displayed, the page the text links to and also the order in which the contents are displayed.
When inserting graphics on your webpage make sure you have reduced the size of your photo before you insert it. Your camera may take 10 Megapixel pictures but computer screens do not display that high of resolution. Save the storage space and make your webpages load faster by reducing the size of your photos before uploading them.
