The curriculum of the school district is the total of all learning experiences provided to students. Each year, the district reviews various areas of the curriculum and adopts textbooks, program goals, expected student outcomes and student learning objectives which are the very latest in technique and material.
The Shelton School District maintains an extensive 6-12 occupational and 9-12 vocational program offering. This provides opportunity for career and job occupation training.
The district also provides comprehensive Kindergarten through 12th grade gifted, remedial and categorical programs. A comprehensive pre-school special education program is also available.
Common Core State Standards
Shelton School District instructional standards are being aligned with the National Common Core State Standards. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. Developed by education experts from 45 states, these K-12 learning standards go deeper into key concepts in math and English language arts. The standards require a practical, real-life application of knowledge that prepares Washington students for success in college, work and life.

Assessments
All schools in the state of Washington are required to assess their students on a yearly basis in grades 3 to 8 and then again in 10th grade. In addition, in order to monitor each student's progress, students are tested three times a year for math and language arts learning and progress.
The Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) was used from 1998 to 2009. In 2010 students in grades 3 to 8 starting taking the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) and high schools started taking the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE). These state assessments will be replaced by the National Smarter Balanced Testing starting in the Spring of 2015. OMS participated in a trial run of this testing in 2013 and Bordeaux and Mt. View Elementary Schools will be participating in a trial version in the Spring of 2014 rather than taking the state MSP.

Shelton School District has many excellent teaching staff. Every year the district selects the Teacher of the Year from nominations from the school buildings.
Many of these teachers have gone on to be also selected by ESD 113 as our Regional Teacher of the Year.
