2023 SSD Replacement Levy Facts

Election Day - February 14, 2023

Superintendent Wyeth Jessee shares helpful information regarding the replacement levy.

**The new levy would not impose a new tax in addition to what is currently in place, but will replace the expired tax.**

**The collection rate for the new levy will not increase from the current rate. The current rate is $2.09 per $1,000 assessed valuation.**

The current levy expires December 31, 2023; the replacement levy would begin January 1, 2024. Shelton School District will receive additional money from the State of Washington (approximately $3 million per year) from ‘levy equalization’ -- but only if the levy passes. The Replacement Levy provides about 11% of the district’s budget. These dollars support all or a part of many educational programs and services in addition to the maintenance of facilities.

The levy amount to be collected is as follows:

  • 2024 — $7,100,000 (Maximum of $2.09 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
  • 2025 — $7,600,000 (Maximum of $2.09 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
  • 2026 — $8,200,000 (Maximum of $2.09 per $1,000 assessed valuation)
