This summer program will support the momentum of your child’s progress toward grade level standards in a fun and motivational setting.

Application
Teachers from your child’s school and across the district will be providing targeted instruction in grade-level classes with extra support, along with educational games and lots of fun during summer school. We welcome applications from families for our summer programming. We have limited spaces available, so we will be reviewing applications and available data to make placement decisions. Applications are due by April 25th, 2025. Families will be notified of placement decisions by May 9th, 2025.

Transportation
Transportation for Summer School is limited. Bus routes will be created according to the most populated areas needing transportation. Please indicate the pickup and drop off addresses on your application form, this will help our transportation department create the summer bus stops and routes. Families will be contacted regarding transportation by June 13th, 2025

Breakfast and Lunch will be provided for each Summer School Day. However, you are welcome to send your student with their own lunch.

  • Monday - Thursdays
  • 7:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
  • Location: Shelton High School

Secondary Summer School Overview
Our Secondary Summer School Program is designed to support students entering 7th–12th grade who are not yet meeting grade-level standards in reading and/or math. For students entering grades 10–12, it also provides credit recovery opportunities.

Credit Recovery for Grades 9–12

  • Focus Areas: English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Student Selection: School-based teams (including counselors, teachers, and administrators) will review student transcripts and prioritize those who would benefit most from summer school based on their credit needs in the four core areas.
  • Limited Space: Students will be notified if they are selected to attend.
  • Additional Credit Retrieval Options: If your student is credit-deficient but not identified for summer school, there will be other opportunities, including:
    • LEAP classes during the school day, where students can complete courses through Fuel Ed.
    • After-school Credit Recovery beginning in Fall 2025.

Pre-Algebra for 9th Grade Transition

  •  For students entering 9th grade who are not yet meeting math standards.
  • The class focuses on pre-teaching essential skills and concepts needed for success in Algebra, which students will take in their freshman year.
  • The goal is to build confidence and competence in foundational math skills, ensuring a smoother transition to high school math.

7th Grade ELA Workshop

  • Designed for students entering 7th grade who need support in reading and writing.
  • The workshop will focus on:
    • Re-teaching key 6th-grade standards to strengthen foundational skills.
    • Pre-teaching essential 7th-grade concepts to help students feel confident and prepared for the next school year.
  • Instruction will follow components of SSD unit plans and use the workshop model being implemented across the district, giving students more opportunities for active practice and skill application.
