Shelton School District Celebrates CTE Month!

Join us as we celebrate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! The Shelton School District is proud of our vast CTE program that is continually expanding.

CTE covers many different fields, including healthcare, natural resources, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management and more. CTE expands outside of the classroom offering work-based learning opportunities as well as certification programs.

We are home to the Shelton Academies at Shelton High School, giving freshmen a dedicated team consisting of an assistant principal, counselor, and a team of teachers to help our students become successful members of the Highclimber family. In addition to their traditional studies, students engage in courses about time and stress management, conflict resolution, and goals setting. All of these skills will help our students go far beyond their time at Shelton High School.

As a sophomore, students declare their academy and pathway. Then following a series of courses in 10th -12th grade they develop knowledge and skills in a particular area of study. Through these courses our students earn certifications, Industry Credentials and/or College Credit that they can use to enter the workforce or in employment.

Inside the MET Academy
Take a look inside of the MET Academy! These are just a few of the machines and learning tools students use on a daily basis.

Most recently, we opened the doors to the brand new Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology Academy (MET) on the Shelton High School campus. The MET Academy prepares students for careers that require skills in a variety of areas.  Students can choose a focused pathway in one area such as construction, welding, or auto repair, or they can interconnect these areas with electronics, mechatronics, engineering and CAD, as well as other disciplines. Mechatronics is the integration of mechanical, electrical and computer science technologies that can be applied in a wide variety of industries. Technicians work in mechanical, electrical, automation, robotics and aerospace fields. Students learn essential technical skills to install, diagnose, repair and perform routine maintenance.

The exploratory courses in the Mechanics Engineering & Technology Academy (MET) are: Construction I, Welding I, Automotive Technology I, Intro to CAD. This is a great chance for our students to try something new or something they heard about, but have never studied.
