Congratulations to one of our Native Education para educators, Shawnell McFarlane! Shawnell wrote and illustrated a children's book on climate change that is being published titled Indigenous Connections. The story follows a young girl living in Alaska who is experiencing the effects of global warming. The girl meets a NASA scientist and the two learn and share about each other’s cultures and western and indigenous sciences.
Shawnell works for the Shelton School District as a paraeducator for Oakland Bay Jr. High, CHOICE Middle and High School, and Cedar High School but will be leaving us for a two-year internship with NASA. We are excited to see where her future brings her and wish her all the best as a published author and her future endeavors working with NASA!
