Instructional Materials Committee Forming

The Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) is formed to establish and monitor the evaluation and recommendation of instructional materials for adoption by the Shelton School Board. The IMC’s role is to review the recommendations of adoption committees and educational staff and ensure that they conform to:

1. Applicable state and federal laws;

2. Goals and/or learning standards of the district and state; and

3. Evaluation criteria approved by the IMC.

The IMC in its review also ensures that adoption decisions were fair and unbiased to potential selections under review and evaluation and that the processes included appropriate representation from stakeholders.

Responsibilities of Instructional Materials Committee Members

· Attend ALL scheduled meetings

· Adhere to agreed-upon group norms

· Contribute to the group’s work

 

In addition, all IMC members must display the following qualities:

· Ability to listen to and consider all perspectives and points of view

· Interpersonal and communication skills contributing to group work and discussions

· Ability to abide by majority decisions of the committee

· Ability to maintain confidentiality when required to ensure fairness in commercially competitive transactions
