Open enrollment for the Shelton School District begins March 1, 2026! If your student lives within SSD boundaries and wants to transfer to a different elementary school, if you attend SSD but wish to enroll in another district, or if you live outside SSD but want to attend a Shelton school, now is the time to apply. This also includes families interested in the dual language program or homeschooling.

Behind the Scenes of a Shelton Late Start or Snow Day

However, many other staff members continue to work behind the scenes to clear sidewalks and parking lots, communicate with families, and ensure that school district operations remain on track.

Shelton School District Statement on Political Clothing in the Classroom

Recently, a situation occurred in which a staff member was asked to not wear clothing displaying political content while at work. We understand this has raised concerns among students, families, and members of our community. The district respects employees’ First Amendment rights and appreciates the staff member’s cooperation. State law and district policy require that employees’ personal expression not interfere with the learning environment. These guidelines apply to all staff, regardless of the viewpoint or topic, and are designed to help maintain a constructive and welcoming learning environment for every student.

Healthy Youth Survey

Our school will participate in the Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) this Fall. Youth in Washington State have been taking the HYS since 2002. The number of young people taking the survey has grown from only a few thousand to over 215,000 a year! The survey asks about how youth are doing, social relationships, mental health, substance use, risks for injury, and more.

Women in Welding

A handful of students recently had a unique opportunity to participate in a special Career and Technical Education workshop, Women in Welding. This engaging event allowed them to meet inspiring women who are professional welders, as well as current academy students pursuing careers in the field. Attendees witnessed live demonstrations showcasing the welders' skills and even go to create their own welding projects! This hands-on experience not only highlighted the importance of women in the welding industry but also encouraged students to explore the possibilities within skilled trades, fostering their confidence and interest in this vital profession.
