A Word from the Superintendent

So much in the district has progressed over the past year.  What initially felt like an isolated, slow walk out of the pandemic turned into a shared awareness of who we are as a school district, what needs to change, and what should stay the same to serve our students the best. Last year, centered on our strategic plan, our educators invested in building meaningful relationships and experiences with their students. From there, teachers consistently shared the target skills for each lesson, empowered students to voice their thoughts and opinions, and, of course, celebrated their successes.  To watch our young people gain confidence in their journey as learners and citizens is truly inspiring.

Student leaders are blossoming all over our schools.  Many are increasingly drawn to the invigorating feelings that come with uplifting their peers and shaping the culture of their school.  Kids are social creatures who desire in-person interactions, and schools provide a venue like no other.  Whether a student is running the student store, co-leading an assembly, or demonstrating sportsmanship on the field, our students are stepping up to the challenge and positively contributing to the make-up of our schools.

We kicked off this school year with a four-day Summer Summit where nearly 300 teachers and administrators engaged in learning around our instructional areas of focus.  The Shelton School District is highly invested in growing our educators and we believe that centering our professional development on a focused set of instructional practices will translate to the transformative experiences we want for our students….and allow for it to be sustainable.  The anticipation for the coming months is palatable as our students and staff are hungry to inspire each other, learn together, and foster a caring community.

Lastly, we want you to join us in being a recognized reader!  Our students are thirsty to read each and every day and we ask you to share your own love for books.  Making time at home to read, share a book, or simply talk about what you enjoy reading contributes to a culture of literacy.

Thank you for letting us educate your student and supporting the Shelton School District.
