Initiative: Successful transitions from PreK – 12

Students and families will be supported as they transition to key grades. To make students and families feel welcome, supported, and connected to their new school, middle and high schools will have orientation activities to welcome incoming students. Students and families will receive building-specific information before the end of the current school year in order to make informed decisions and be successful in the new school.

This summer, orientation events leading into 7th and 9th grade will be hosted for students and families. Summer school and reading events will be provided for incoming 9th grade students and opportunities for families to receive information will be scheduled.

Schools will create structures for students to receive ongoing support and information and offer activity fairs to encourage student participation in clubs and activities.

Success metrics: students will end 9th grade with 6 credits and students will graduate high school ready for college/career.

Initiative: Student pathways to success

High schools will prepare students for the broadest range of options to have access to the most opportunities after graduation. This work will include opportunities for students to access career exploration and course pathways. The district will partner with community members to showcase a wide range of career options to students. Every student will be prepared academically and financially for any post-secondary plan they create.

Initial work includes reviewing and planning for the implementation of a High School & Beyond Plan program. By Winter 2022, all secondary schools will be prepared to implement the High School & Beyond Plan. By Spring 2023, families and students will have access to information about post-secondary options, including pathways for students to graduate.

Success metrics: students will end 9th grade with 6 credits and students will graduate high school ready for college/career.
