Newcomer
Program
Shelton School District
offers a Newcomer program for our recent immigrants to the United States who
have limited English proficiency and/or no formal education in their native
countries. This program was created to develop and strengthen Newcomer needs
before they enter into the general education classroom. The Newcomer program serves
grades five through twelve with emphasis on educating students in the areas of
linguistic proficiency skills, cultural needs and social adaptions to a new
culture. Student schedules are split between the Newcomer program and the
general student population for elective classes. Additional services are available
through our Migrant and McKinney-Vento programs.
