Open enrollment for the Shelton School District begins March 1, 2026! If your student lives within SSD boundaries and wants to transfer to a different elementary school, if you attend SSD but wish to enroll in another district, or if you live outside SSD but want to attend a Shelton school, now is the time to apply. This also includes families interested in the dual language program or homeschooling.

When school is canceled or delayed due to snow or ice in the Shelton School District, students and some staff members get to stay home. However, many other staff members continue to work behind the scenes to clear sidewalks and parking lots, communicate with families, and ensure that school district operations remain on track.

Every school day in Mason County begins with a bus ride — and the Transportation Cooperative makes it possible. Serving Shelton, Pioneer, and Southside School Districts, more than 55 buses and a dedicated team of drivers keep students safe, on time, and ready to learn. Hear from Director of Transportation Caleb Friend and driver Juan Zacarias about the daily routines, safety measures, and the powerful connections built between bus drivers and students.

While students recharge for fall, Shelton School District’s Facilities team is racing through a two-month marathon—deep-cleaning classrooms, fixing heaved sidewalks, upgrading HVAC and LED lighting, and even refinishing the iconic Mini-Dome floor. This year the crew is stretching every dollar in the face of state-funding shortfalls, trimming contracts, bulk-buying supplies through state co-ops, and leaning on PTA paint days and surplus sales to keep $300 million in buildings humming.
